The magazine covers a wide spectrum of topics, from metalworking to 3D printing.
Shop Solutions — Case studies that illustrate how the latest technologies are helping manufacturers and shops of all sizes expand capacity, meet quality and productivity requirements, and improve their manufacturing processes. Requirements include interviews of personnel at an end user company, such as a machine shop. The end user company details a manufacturing challenge or problem that is solved by the use of products and technology from a supplier whose capabilities are profiled. Length: 1000-1300 words. Images should be action shots of shop floors, products, and personnel involved in the case study.
Advanced Manufacturing Now – In this new monthly magazine column, we address modern manufacturing processes, technologies and strategies. These columns are 600 words and are authored by a technical or thought leader, whose portrait runs with the column. If you would like to be considered as an author for this column, please email firstname.lastname@example.org a short 200-word pitch about why you should be considered.
Viewpoints – In this regular magazine column, we feature a one-page column by a high-level expert about a high-level topic in the manufacturing industry. Viewpoints Blog – An extension of our popular magazine column, this is a short column (500-700 words) that addresses a topic in the advanced manufacturing sector. Content we will consider for this space include manufacturing processes, technologies, strategies and challenges. Generally speaking, we do not cover labor, tax or manufacturing policy issues.
NewsDesk – This is an area where we cover breaking news in the advanced manufacturing sector, such as mergers and acquisitions, high-level personnel changes, awards and anniversaries and other interesting news items. To be considered, send a standard press release to email@example.com.
Industry Yearbooks are authoritative products delve into manufacturing in the Aerospace & Defense, Motorized Vehicles and Energy industries. The yearbooks reach specific manufacturing professionals in those key critical parts-making sectors.

Case Studies – These describe how a specific company is using a novel manufacturing technology or process in service of the Yearbook’s subject industry. These are between 1300 – 1800 words and include photography.
White Papers – Authored by a technical expert the white paper describes a novel manufacturing technology or process that is of use to the Yearbook’s subject industry. These are between 1300 – 1800 words and include graphics.
Workforce – These look at worker-related issues in the yearbook’s subject industry, from labor issues to training and education to offshoring/reshoring topics. They are either about 630 words (one publication page) or about 1300 words (two or three publication page).

Pre-Publication Review – Our Policy
At SME Media, we provide the opportunity for pre-publication review of provided content as well as source interviews in our products, which includes our highly respected Manufacturing Engineering magazine.
We do this for one reason: to make every effort to ensure that the highly technical content we provide is accurate.
If you would like to review content before publication that involves you or your company, you must make this request to the editor managing your particular project.
If you have suggested changes to the article that improves the accuracy or clarity of the piece, they must be provided in writing to the editor by the deadline provided.
When you make a suggested change, we may or may not adopt that change based on our own style rules and other factors. For example, it is our style to only allow for full capitalization of company names when the name is an actual acronym.
Please keep in mind that we offer pre-publication review as a courtesy that enhances our ability to provide accurate content.
