American-made carbide cutting tools and inserts for lathes and milling have been reintroduced by Arno Werkzeuge USA LLC (Harvard, IL) under its former brand name, H.B. Rouse. Formerly branded as Arno-Rouse the product offering includes a broad range of American-made, carbide boring bars, tools and inserts for manual turning and milling operations. Included in the H.B. Rouse brand are H.B. Rouse Little Hogger Mills with standard ¾” (19 mm) Weldon shanks and standard carbide inserts for use on all milling machines from Bridgeport types to large boring mills. H.B. Rouse Carbide Insert Turning Tools use triple-sided inserts for quick change turning/lathe operations. H.B. Rouse Triple Tip Boring Bars offer an improved triangular insert located within a precision machined pocket to eliminate shifting under heavy cuts. The cutting edge only requires removing a single screw and indexing the insert. H.B. Rouse Carbide Insert Boring Bars feature carbide inserts that provide three cutting edges instead of only one as is common with brazed-tip tooling.
Martin Gardner, president of Arno USA said: “While Arno Werkzeuge high-precision cutting tools and inserts are our focus in North America, the H.B. Rouse products have always been complementary to our German-made, high-precision offering. H.B. Rouse cutting tools are still very popular in manual lathes and milling applications such as automotive, education/training, hobbyist and other general machining markets. H. B. Rouse carbide cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts are made of outstanding quality and manufactured in our USA facility.”
H.B. Rouse was founded in Chicago over 100 years ago in 1899 by Harry B. Rouse. The company initially manufactured special equipment for the printing industry and then later diversified into manufacturing cutting tools and inserts in the 1970s. In the 1980s, Arno Werkzeuge, Germany, was seeking to expand its operations into North America. The company selected Rouse as their US distributor, later acquiring the Rouse brand and selling their complementary product lines under the Arno-Rouse banner. The success of Arno’s high-precision, high-performance cutting tools, grooving and cut-off system, Swiss-style, deco cut and ISO turn product lines led to renaming their North American operation as Arno USA and now the reintroduction of the H.B. Rouse line as a stand-alone product offering.
